NEONSOMNIA is a Gameboy Color game about exploring a strange and surreal dream world. It was developed for the Dream Diary Jam 7 and is a fangame based on Yume Nikki.

Featuring:

  • 4 nexus doors each leading to unique multi-leveled dream worlds with tons of branching paths.
  • 4 effects to collect
  • Lots of small details that change at random each time you re-enter the dream world, allowing you to discover new things and places
  • Very deeply hidden areas and secrets no literally nobody.

The game is currently released as an Early Access build and cannot be completed, but there is plenty to explore right now and more will be added in the future.

Downloads come with an additional Bonus Folder containing the full credits, some high-res concept art, and a walkthrough with hints and full spoilers on where to find all the current effects, incase you get stuck.

If you like the game let me know over on my twitter.

Does it work on DMG Gameboy?

It's intended for Gameboy Color, I'm not actually sure if it will boot on DMG.

Really digging the GameBoy aesthetic! I liked the capybara area

great work - charming music and visuals, and I enjoyed the reference to myhouse.wad. Only real graphical issue is that the forward/backward walking animation looks a bit strange (could maybe go with two frames like the left/right ones?). I know this is still a WIP, and it's inspired by Yume Nikki, but some more environmental interaction could be cool as well

This is cool! It's awesome to see my music used in something so creative. I haven't found any of the effects yet

I love the surreal environments and the nonsensical nature to the game. You did an amazing job. What were your biggest inspirations?

Really appreciate it! Obviously Yume Nikki but I'm a big fan of YN fangames in general. I played a lot of Yume 2kki in prep to make this, and there's a section heavily inspired by MyHouse.wad and liminal spaces in general.
